Domain comparison

The domain comparison puts two different domains directly side by side – score, categories, metrics and the desktop load process as a filmstrip next to each other. This is something different from the scan comparison, which shows two scans of the same URL at different points in time.

What the domain comparison is for

• Positioning your own site against a competitor
• Assessing two different projects or environments (e.g. production vs. staging) at a glance
• Quickly seeing where your own performance stands in comparison

How to start a comparison

Via Compare: enter a URL or domain in both fields and click "Compare". Optionally choose a region.

Via the scan detail page: the "Compare domain" button opens Compare with the scanned domain pre-filled. Enter the second domain – done.

If there is no recent scan (< 24 h) for one of the domains, a new scan is triggered automatically. Both scans always run from the same region so that the result is fairly comparable.

What the comparison shows

Score and categories — the overall score and all sub-areas (Speed, Images, Caching, WordPress, Technical) side by side, with the differences highlighted in colour.

Metrics — TTFB, FCP, LCP, TBT, requests and data volume in direct opposition. Green and red arrows show immediately which site is better in which metric.

Desktop filmstrip — the load process of both domains frame by frame next to each other. FCP and LCP are marked in colour so that you can see when the pages start to render.

Regions

The same region is used for both scans in a comparison. With "Automatic", Falkenstein is used as the fallback. That way latencies and network conditions are identical – a fair comparison.

Sharing

Every comparison gets its own URL (e.g. /compare/abc12345). The URL can be shared – no login is needed to view it.
