What the sitemap import is for
The sitemap import helps you avoid creating many URLs manually as individual scheduled scans. Instead, turbometrics reads a sitemap or a sitemap index and prepares a selection for you.
This is particularly useful for:
- larger websites
- freshly set up projects
- relaunches with many new URLs
- inventories that are to be maintained later via bulk actions
What can be imported
The import supports:
- normal XML sitemaps
- sitemap index files with child sitemaps
URLs are cleanly deduplicated across several sitemaps.
What happens in the preview
The preview distinguishes between:
- newly importable
- already present
- excluded
That way you do not just see a raw list, but immediately which URLs are actually still relevant for monitoring.
Which filters make sense here
The import is deliberately not blind. Typical rules are:
- only matching hosts
- exclusion of obvious feed or archive URLs
- deduplication across all loaded sitemaps
- a cap on the plan-dependent maximum number of importable URLs
This keeps the preview useful rather than merely large.
Selecting instead of importing everything
With large websites in particular, a deliberate selection is worthwhile. Good candidates are usually:
- the home page
- the most important landing pages
- category pages
- heavily visited sub-pages
- pages with business or conversion relevance
Shared defaults
During the import you set shared defaults for all new targets, for example:
- interval
- region
- thresholds
- alert on failed scan
- email or webhook settings
That saves a lot of time and keeps new targets consistent.
Good practice
Import the core pages first, then refine via bulk actions. That way you build up monitoring in a controlled manner and avoid a new inventory immediately becoming too noisy or unmanageable.
